“What the eyes see, the brain creates an image…“
Old ruins …
In my neighborhood, there was an old dilapidated building… It used to be used to make soda water… We, children, loved to play in it, unaware of the danger it hides inside…
There was also an old black Mercedes-oldtimer in the yard… That’s what Hitler drove, at least in the movies…
The building was in a very dilapidated state… I don’t know if it was the result of the bombing of Slavonski Brod during World War II, or something else…
As far as I remember, it was a two-story building with a basement… It was not for reconstruction, but only for removal…
That’s how it was… Today, a residential and commercial four-story building has been on that spot for over fifty years…
Timeless Beacon Pavilion …
“Ma Yansong was invited by Guangdong Nanhai Art Field to complete an art installation named “Timeless Beacon” in Taiping Xu, Nanhai, Guangdong province of China.
The design renovated Taiping market, known as the largest abandoned building in Taiping Xu, a once bustling fair established in the late Ming Dynasty and flourished for centuries until the 1980s when fishermen, businessmen, and villagers gathered there for trading.”
And what did we get? …
The architects threw multi-colored canvases on the building as if it were going to host a pride parade… From the back side, reflective foils were put on the facade, on which the reflection of the neighboring buildings is vaguely monitored… It looks like an unfinished intervention…
All in all, for the negligible funds spent on decorating the exterior of the ruined building, an attempt was made to refresh it… I’m afraid it was unsuccessful…
It seems to me that this Circus found itself in the media, because of an unsuccessful, and not because of a quality intervention…
The central lofty tower is reminiscent of the chimney of a production and technology building…
According to the colors, it will attract members of the pride parade rather than architects…
