“To see and be seen…“
City center…
My professional colleague Sinisa Tomic, a little over thirty years ago, moved across the street from my apartment… Near Strange square … In fact, he got an attic space in a residential building in order to convert it into an apartment…
I remember that procedure…
By the way, my colleague then worked in City Urbanism, it seems to me more in conservation work… He drew very well… I remember his works from elementary school… Sinisa played, it seems to me, the flute and the accordion in one To the city music ensemble…
He was, and I believe still is, a versatile artist…
Moved to America, and work professionally…
Strange squares …
My colleague, nicknamed Cino, posted a photo of the square in Sienna on Facebook the other day… And the comment: “The moment I’ve been waiting for 40 years to see one of the most beautiful city squares in the world, Sienna”.
He was supported by several of his acquaintances, but not one of them gave me an answer… why, why, for what…
I didn’t notice anything spectacular in that published photo…
Is it the ground plan form of the Square, which was created by chance, bounded by the surrounding buildings… Or is it the beauty of the buildings that surround them…
Commentator Sanjar Sanja stated: “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. I don’t agree with that when it comes to architecture…
It still remains unclear to me…
Again, Strange squares …
The question arises, how are City Squares created… Accidentally or planned, or both… However they are created, they depend on a lot of circumstances and are difficult to predict…
Do they start with their ground plan shape, then fill its borders with buildings…
Or buildings are built first, then the ground plan form of the square is created as a consequence of its construction…
Be that as it may, the fact is that they look different in different seasons…
