The garden …
My aunt Marija had an orchard in “Podvinjsko Brdo”, near Slavonski Brod…
A large and rich orchard…
There were plums in it for making brandy and jam…
Sweet, huge, homegrown strawberries… And fragrant forest…
Sweet cherries and sour cherries…
We children did the worst jobs, like picking plums…
And sugar at the end, a fig tree…
Fig tree …
Auntie’s orchard was a little paradise for everyone… Both big and small…
We went there every weekend…
Before we got to it, we passed by my grandmother, Aunt Marija’s mother…then by one, then another and a third uncle…
They all had a fig planted in their yards…
Why?
