Every year as children, my brother Zlatko and I went to Lika to visit our uncle… He was engaged in agriculture, he did everything and anything… He grew corn, wheat, plums, potatoes, beets, and other fruits and vegetables… Aunt made cheese from cow’s milk… Lika hard cheese…
I couldn’t wait for Saturdays, because my uncle and aunt were driving flour, cheese, and other products to the market to sell… Of course, we went in a cart pulled by oxen…
They were oxen weighing around 800 kilograms…
It was about 5 kilometers from their house to Market, so that drive took a long time…
The bullock carts were of wooden construction with wooden wheels protected by tin strips… The brake was a manual screw-on… The bullock cart also had a safety wooden “brake” against unwanted movement backward on the uphill…
In the back seat of my car…
Thanks to technological development, we now have motor vehicles… They are no longer used exclusively for going to the market and other basic needs…
Due to not having their own living space, young people often go in pairs to the large parking lot… It is located inside the Austro-Hungarian Fortress, which is a monument of zero category…
They usually borrow the car from their parents… Well, after the nightlife, they go to rest a little in the back seat of their car…
I envy them because at one time we couldn’t do that with bullock carts, especially in winter…
That’s why we went to the haylofts…
Campers…
Today, after they have grown up, campers are being renovated or bought… In ten square meters, they have everything like in a family house… even nicer… They are mobile…
Every day they are in a different place… They travel all over the world… An enjoy…
They don’t even need a real fixed house… they take this one with them all the time… Like a vineyard snail…
Even in case of war, they leave, together with their house… They move it to more peaceful areas…
