Our sports culture and habits, about 50 years ago…
I was about 10 years old… My uncle made me a basketball hoop, out of an iron rod… The net was improvised from fruit and vegetable packaging net… I got a real rubber children’s ball… Egg-shaped, of course. ..
And we children attached such a basket to the birch tree in front of our building…
Under the birch in the shade, we played daily basketball… Everything was improvised, except for the birch… And we had a great time…
Farther from our building was, and still is, the sports stadium “Klasije”… It had a closed hall for basketball, indoor soccer, and other sports events… In addition to that hall, there were outdoor sports fields for basketball, indoor soccer…
After a certain period of time, we moved to a real basketball court… With a real basketball… With real baskets and nets… Wow…
Night basketball …
Before, we young people went for a walk and spent around 18 hours…At 9 pm, we children went to sleep…
Today, everything is different… Now young people go out for a night out around 11 pm and return around 4 am… The younger ones, during the summer, play basketball at night… Night basketball, on an open playground… On the playground next to the residential area…
They hit that hard basketball, then the asphalt court… They hit the brain… We can’t sleep…
The citizens are upset, they can’t sleep, and tomorrow morning they have to wake up early… And go to work…
Some allegedly called the police, but when they see whose children are on the playground, they are not allowed to touch them…
Basketball court upstairs, above business premises…
A few years ago, the mayor of Slavonski Brod, Mirko Duspara, said that he would build commercial space on the site of that basketball court… We were all against such a crazy idea…
One of the solutions to prevent night basketball is its complete fencing and locking… However, considering the individual culture and mentality of young people, I’m afraid that the fence would be torn down, for the sake of a forced entry to the playground…
Perhaps a third shift should be introduced for municipal wardens if the Police are not sufficiently active…
Um…
We just shouldn’t be too opposed to night basketball… Maybe that’s exactly what someone wants… And for the reason, to make their ideas of building a business space come true…

Why does the City Administration not regularly maintain/control it?
