As children, we had to go plum picking… To my aunt and uncle in Podvinjsko Brdo, near Slavonski Brod… Our parents forced us to do that… No one liked that…
Plums were mostly used for brandy… We children only ate them as jam… The famous Podvinja plum jam…
The plums were collected in the following way: First, tarpaulins – large canvas surfaces – were placed under them… after the branches were rubbed by hand, the ripe plums would fall on it… After that, the plums would be collected in buckets and carried to larger transport containers…
In that orchard-plum tree, my uncle had a small wooden weekend house… 2.5×3.5 m, mainly for storing chairs, tables and the like…
Weekend house …
Most of the people of Brod have their weekend houses in nearby surrounding settlements… In nature in peace and quiet… There we socialize and rest from weekly work commitments…
Let them have weekend houses on the Jadaran Sea… They go there on vacation… Or they rent them out, which is currently a lucrative business…
