Chewing gum spit out on the Promenade…

“It’s not bubble gum for a “peasant”…

Chewing gum around my head…

I remember when my brother Zlatko wrapped chewed rubber around my head…

This is the proof that even as a ten-year-old boy I was calm and composed…

We were sitting at the table after lunch, I suppose… My brother got up and came slightly behind me… I felt something hovering around my head…

At first, I didn’t recognize what it was about… The movements of his hands showed that something was going around my head… I soon realized that it was his chewing gum

It was too late for me to react, so I gave in… Admittedly, I was unaware of the power of chewing gum and the consequences of that act…

Of course, the rubber could not be removed from the hair, so the result was a haircut…

Almost to the skin…

A chewing gum walkway…

Even about fifty years ago, when I was a boy, our paved Korzo was full of worn-out chewing gum

It was ugly… To see and to walk on them, especially on summer days… Flip-flops or summer slippers stick to the elastic chewing gum and you still walk barefoot on one foot…

The entire surface of the promenade, about 10,000 m2, was colorful from glued spit-out gum… In autumn and winter, due to rain and snow, it was less noticeable…

Although there were enough trash cans, few people threw them into them…

Even the cleaners scraped them with some sharp knives on a stick…

I didn’t use chewing gum at that time, unlike ten years ago… Then it helped me as an anti-stress aid while I was working in the State and City Service…

Considering that wisdom and age go together, then and still today I throw them in the waste containers…

Let’s go, clean the walkway…

However, regardless of the culprits, and the media allegations about the carcinogenicity of chewing gum, the problem needs to be solved… I’m afraid that we shouldn’t count on youth culture.

But to something else…

Tires are a necessary evil, like cigarettes…

Good business for producers, bad for consumers…

Maybe it should be written on their packaging that they are dangerous to life, like on the packaging of cigarettes…

Maybe…
