Small people – big monuments…
As small children, we often played in the neighboring park Klasije… You already know about it, I often mentioned it…
In that Park, there was a tall monument to fallen fighters in the National Liberation War… In the war from 1941-1945. year… On a square plinth, there was a man with a flag…
That monument was six meters high… I was in the lower grades of elementary school at the time… So, very short…
After the Homeland War in the Republic of Croatia, that monument, like most others, was removed… In its place came a new one…
Post-war monuments…
It’s a pity that after every war, all traces of the previous state system are removed… Both which were good and which were not… Well, so are the monuments…
Those previous post-war monuments could, and should have, been monuments to previous cultures, systems, mentality, social organization…
New post-war monuments are created, for whom they are needed and for whom they are not, in locations where they are needed and where they are not, of various artistic qualities, both good and bad…
Why?
Only, to hide the previous one and show the new arrangement… And culture and art suffer from that…
Big people – small monuments…
Today, after elementary school, when I grew up, the monuments become smaller…
But, new elementary school students are born again…
